What makes the M-510 different from other Marsden floor scales?

Marsden provides a complete range of professional, Class III Approved medical floor scales. Most Marsden stand on scales, such as the M-420 and M-430, have a display that’s part of the base.

Having a separate indicator, such as that on the M-510, means the scale is suitable for weight-sensitive environments. It can also provide greater convenience without having to opt for a less portable column scale, in the sense that the indicator can be placed on a desk to view the weight reading.

Class III Approved scales explained:

The Marsden M-510 is Class III Approved scale which means it has been built, tested, verified, and calibrated to a specific standard. The NAWI directive which states all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis, and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. To become Class III Approved, a scale must go through rigorous testing by an EU notified body. It is standard for medical scales used in hospitals, GP surgeries, and hospitals to be Class III Approved.

Additionally, the M-430 is MDD Approved, meaning it has passed approval tests as a medical device under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC).

MDD Approved scales explained:

MDD Approved means that the device meets strict safety requirements enforced (in the UK) by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC) is one of three directives that cover all medical equipment intended to be used to diagnose, prevent, monitor or treat.

With the exception of hoist weighing attachments (for example, the Marsden M-600) it is not a requirement for weighing scales to be MDD Approved, only Class III Approved. However, most Marsden professional medical scales are MDD Approved as an extra seal of quality and reliability.
